Lt Col Richard Blanch is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and an academic at the University of Birmingham. He will be talking about how eye trauma is managed both clinically and surgically, with details of some interesting/complex cases.

We invite you to join us for the first talk of an 8-part revision series covering all the topics of the Duke Elder exam. For our first session we are delighted to welcome Dr Ken Kawamoto, currently an FY2 in London, who came 4th place nationally in the 2019 Duke Elder exam.

Dr Adrian Hopkins, MBE

The director of the Mectizan Donation Programme from 2008-2016 and technical advisor for the Central African Republic Ministry of Health, Dr Hopkins has helped to eliminate river blindness from many rural communities. He was awarded an MBE in 2015 to mark his huge contributions in the field.

Dr Zhou, a specialist trainee, will be discussing what ophthalmology is and what it’s like on the job, as well as showing off various fascinating pieces of technology and some interesting cases. There will also be ample opportunity to ask any questions you may have about careers in the field.

Dr Ting is the consultant vitreo-retinal specialist in the Singapore National Eye Centre, Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology with Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore, and clinical lead for artificial intelligence (AI) in ophthalmology.

Our guest speaker, Dr Chrishan Gunasekara, is an Ophthalmology Registrar at NNUH and the winner of the Chief Resident prize at the Judge Business School for developing an ophthalmic assessment app currently being used by over 3000 people.
